SwaraSynthesis
SwaraSynthesis, a world music fusion ensemble based in Perth, Australia, thrives on a balance of consistency, flexibility, and artistic exploration. While a core group of musicians provides the ensemble with its distinctive identity and musical foundation, guest artists are invited to participate based on their availability, individual expertise, collaborative possibilities, and the artistic requirements of each program. This evolving ensemble structure allows SwaraSynthesis to continually refresh its sound while maintaining a recognizable artistic character.
The ensemble presents its work in several formats. Its signature Indo-Western Fusion programs bring together Indian classical traditions with diverse global influences, including world music, jazz, blues, latin and Middle Eastern. These performances explore the meeting points between different musical languages through intricate rhythms, modal melodies, improvisation, and structured composition.
A shorter Indian Classical format focuses on the confluence of Hindustani (North Indian) and Carnatic (South Indian) traditions, creating dialogue between two distinct yet complementary classical systems. On special occasions, SwaraSynthesis expands into multidisciplinary productions incorporating dance and other performing arts, creating a richer visual and musical experience.
Across its various formats, the ensemble brings together a diverse array of instruments, rhythmic patterns, melodic structures, and performance traditions. The result is music that is exploratory yet accessible, combining the spontaneity of improvisation with the precision of composition and creating meaningful connections between musical cultures.
